Kegging Wine Coolers Part 2
This post comes much later than I expected but I wanted to follow up with this post. Due to a family move, the party I planned to serve this Strawberry “wine cooler” at didn’t happen. Then other life stuff happened. Then my temporary kegerator decided to formally retire and I had no way to chill/dispense kegs for awhile. Long story short, I finally got to taste this experiment over 2 months later than planned.
Let me preface with: I don’t like sweet stuff. The strawberry wine is sweet. The flavor is pretty good – definitely bold strawberry going on there. I had way too much to fit into the keg and wound up with 3 liters of “still” wine. The uncarbonated wine is far too sweet for me. Others liked it, though.
Then I finished building my kegerator and got a taste of the carbonated “wine cooler” version. The carbonation cuts the sweetness just enough that I didn’t mind drinking half a glass of it. It’s a lighter flavor and mouthfeel but still plenty of strawberry. I can definitely see this disappearing fast at a party.
My ABV came in right at 5% which is what I was aiming for since I figure people will drink this stuff faster than a regular wine. I have a couple parties coming up that I might drag some kegs to so I’ll be able to get more feedback on this one.
